Welcome Wallace High School

Good morning pupils at Wallace High School! Soul Touch would like to extend an official, exceedingly grateful, welcome to everyone at Wallace High School. Firstly thank you for your enthusiasm and constant support! Thank you for your interest in our work in Uganda and for choosing to make a difference to other people's lives.

Over the next few days you have the opportunity, and the time, to contribute something positive, meaningful and enriching to the lives of abandoned children, living in Uganda. You have the opportunity to ask questions to key people who dedicate their lives to rescuing and caring for these children. You can also link up with people here in Scotland who have visited Uganda and continue to make things better for the kids.

You will be connecting with Dwelling Places orphanage in a number of ways. Using video editing, the blog, letter writing and other imaginative means, that you invent, you will communicate with children at the other side of the world.

This is the start of an exciting partnership! Be prepared to make a change: to be the change! Open your ears and eyes and think too about what we here in Scotland can learn from the children there.

We are all so looking forward to following your journey. Make sure you keep us up to date with everything you’ve learned, any news you get from Uganda and anything we can do to help you make a huge difference!

Love, thanks and heaps of blessings!

Today's been kinda wierd...
Normally id be dragging my heels into maths for first period and struggling to survive 50 minutes of History.
While im worrying about things along these lines children are struggling into the day with no food and dragging their fingers through the dust as they have no pencils or paints to express themselves with.
Life's good, but not for everybody...

Great to know people are aware and fighting on the side of these folk instead of against them.

In the words of the mighty Martin Luther King:

Hey!

Just to say we appreciate what we have alot more now, like we all have at least one computer at home and for people in Uganda they have hardly any in the country.

And like we complain when there is nothing we want to eat for tea, and then we leave half of it on our plates - which just goes straight into the bin! Whereas in Uganda you just eat anything you can lay your hands on!

We all complain about having to come to school where in Uganda they would do anything to school and have an education, so that they can get a job in the future!

I think this has opened our eyes and we have only been doing this for half a day! So thank you very much for letting us know about another country and lifestyle!

We think that everyone in Uganda are amazing and we hope that anyting we do will help them all!

hiya!!!

We are watching video footage that Miss Bonnar took when she was in Uganda. It is an interview with a girl called Esther. She is telling us about school and her favourite subjects which are Christian and Religous Studies and Biology.
Their school moto is, "Discipline and Determination." She enjoys school and it is good to know that some children in Uganda get an education. We were quite surprised to see that they wrote in English. Do children in Uganda learn English or is it their native language?

Reply soon!!!

Hey,
This morning we are thinking of as many ways as we can to try and raise money. Soul Touch has seriously changed my perspective on life and I now care about what is happening in other countries around the world. It seems unreal that, right now as we are here, at our well developed school there are people on the other side of the world who can't afford to go to school.

Hi Wallace Girls!!
The food in Africa....well most of it is cultivated - we ate things like rice, beans, matoki, corn...and GOAT!! Africans are very generous with their food when they have guests. Most of the time the food was good but sometimes we just had to hold our nose, close our eyes and chew really fast. Ask Miss Bonnar about the time we were in Jinga and we had to go back for dinner at the Head Masters house! :) x

Hi guys, this is amazing!

I worked in Uganda in '07 and now work from DP over here in Scotland. The work is hard and sad sometimes but reading your messages makes me SMILE and really encourages me, thanks for partnering with us.

The kids in Uganda are amazing and it's a total privilege to be able to support them - glad you're joining the family!!

THE STORY OF PATRICK!

Patrick's one of my good friends. I met him in '07 and he helped me when I was helping some street kids in Kampala.

I couldn't do the work on my own and randomly met Patrick who was an orphan and unemployed and wanted to give his time to help the kids. I say randomly, but it couldn't have been, God knew what I needed to help me and provided a total angel in Patrick, I love how He does that!!

Patrick hadn't finished school and had no money but knew that he'd be created with a purpose and once he found it he put everything into it. He's 20yrs old and looks after over 50 kids!! His faith is incredible and challenges me loads - imagine having to trust that God would provide food for 50 kids cos you have no money?!?!

He text me this week saying they had no food in the home - but people had given me money and I was just about to send over nearly £500 (1.6 million Ugandan shillings!!) That's enough to rent land to grow food - woohoo!! Good timing eh?!

Msg back!
Gillian

Hi Gillian,
That's a great story, and Patrick is amazing! When he first told us his story, we were really surprised because he turned down his chance to move to America, but it was very nice of him to stay and look after all the kids in his orphanage.

Learning about Uganda has truelly changed our lives, in a good way. We now care about others and want to do as much as we can to help the less fortunate people that live in Uganda. Later on in the year we are having a water challenge to raise money for the Ugandans.

What was your favourite part of the time you were in Uganda, and why?

Love,
Carlie & Rachel :) xx

Hey,

We have lots of interest in the water challenge it sounds like it is going to be great. We are already starting to write letters to other schools in the area to get them involved.

Hi to all the wonderful pupils at Wallace High School who are involved in the Uganda challenge this week. It is great to hear how enthusiastic you all are.I was in Uganda last year with my sister and others and had a wonderful time working with the children and families. I also did the water challenge a couple of years ago for 6 months! It was difficult but worth it when we saw the faces of the street children in Peru! I would love to be involved in your project. I work in Crieff High School and maybe the pupils there would like to get involved too. Hope you have a great Thursday and please tell my sister I think she is amazing!
Lots of Love
